The schools, which we are opening in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, can influence large numbers of our future working population.... Read More

This one-dimensional or rather casual discourse almost makes history a ‘matter of fact’ and leads to students taking historical accounts at face value without placing them in any sort of context. I also think that such teaching makes students empathize with the ‘victims’, blame the unidentifiable ‘offenders’ and ‘onlookers’, which leads them to develop a very clouded moral vision. But is this what we want to achieve through our history teaching? It’s a big NO for me. And this leads to me question – what should the pedagogy for History teaching aim at?

“Any skill development mission has to adopt a comprehensive approach at all three fronts—increasing enrolment and access, reducing dropouts once enrolled, and ensuring right delivery. Jaipuria group is making headway on all three counts in a consistent manner, and all it has to do is to strengthen and consolidate further.” ….. Says Dr Prabhat Pankaj.
In our endeavor to find more about the relevance of education and its role in Prime Minister’s Skilling India initiative we approached Dr. Prabhat Pankaj, well known economist and Director of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur, for his views.

Role of Questioning in the Classroom
|
“In a global information environment, the old pattern of education in answer-finding is one of no avail: one is surrounded by answers, millions of them, moving and mutating at electric speed. Survival and control will depend on the ability to probe and to question in the proper way and place.”
M. McLuhan (probably written 30 or 40 years ago)
Ever wondered, if Newton had not questioned why the apple fell from the tree, we probably would not have known about gravity! If you think about how all...
